For oil-heated homes, the financial case is compelling: switching from oil at £0.09/kWh (net heat delivered, assuming 85% boiler efficiency) to an ASHP at 2.8 SPF on a 27.69p/kWh electricity rate produces an effective heat cost of ~9.9p/kWh — near parity with oil and far below LPG. Pair the heat pump with solar panels and the economics improve further, as daytime surplus generation effectively provides free electricity during the shoulder heating season.
From March 2024, the EPC insulation requirement was removed from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme criteria. You no longer need to clear outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations before applying. A valid EPC within the past 10 years is sufficient.
